OFC Jazz Band

Now recruiting!

The Ottawa Folklore Center’s long-running Jazz Band program is an opportunity to learn to play jazz in a fun and non-competitive environment. Ensembles are taught by Adrian Matte at the Ottawa Folklore Center, 1111 Bank Street @ Sunnyside.

The program is recruiting music students for the following ensembles:

Friday A Band: Rehearsal Fridays, 730pm to 830pm. As part of the class curriculum, this ensemble plays regular monthly gigs as well as occasional bookings at community events. Age ranges from post secondary to adult. Attitude is more important than chops. Material covers swing and bebop standards, hard bop, soul jazz, latin and afrobeat.

Friday B Band: Rehearsal Fridays, 630pm to 730pm. This ensemble is for high school age musicians, and focusses on building repertoire, improvisation skills, and ensemble playing. There are regular performance opportunities.

Thursday Band: Rehearsal Thursdays, 830pm to 930pm. This ensemble is for adult beginners, and focusses on ensemble playing, repertoire and basic improvisation skills. For more information please contact Adrian Matte at the Ottawa Folklore Center: 613.730.2887 ext.43 and jazz@ottawafolklore.com

OFC Jazz Band

The OFC Jazz Band was started by long time instructor Adrian Matte as an avenue for students who have an interest in jazz to work on rehearsing, improvising, and performing in a welcoming and fun environment.

There are several ensembles, geared towards different age groups and skill levels.
The bands are comprised of OFC students and community members.
